LUSAKA, Friday, July 17, 2026 – The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia Chapter is saddened by the passing of Dr. Guy Lindsay Scott, former Vice-President and Acting President of the Republic of Zambia, who died on July 15, 2026, at the age of 82.
Dr. Scott served as Vice-President from 2011 to 2014 under President Michael Sata. Following President Sata’s death, he assumed the role of Acting President from October 2014 to January 2015, during which he presided over a peaceful constitutional transition. He also held the position of Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Fisheries.
Dr. Scott’s public career was closely linked to discussions on governance, policy, and accountability—issues that are central to MISA’s mission of promoting media freedom, freedom of expression, and democratic governance in the region.
MISA Zambia extends its heartfelt condolences to Dr. Scott’s family, friends, and colleagues, as well as to the people of Zambia during this time of national mourning.
