MISA Zambia Presents Media Freedom Findings at CCMG Election Observation Report Launch

12 Jun, 2026
MISA Zambia presented media freedom findings at the CCMG election report launch on 12 June 2026, documenting January–June violations and urging protection of journalists for credible elections.

MISA Zambia joined fellow civil society organisations for the launch of the Christian Churches Monitoring Group (CCMG) Third Long-Term Election Observation Report on Friday, 12 June 2026. The report set out key observations and actionable recommendations for the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), the Zambia Police Service, political parties, civil society and the media aimed at strengthening electoral integrity, promoting peaceful participation and enhancing accountability across the electoral cycle ahead of the 2026 General Elections.

At the event, MISA Zambia presented findings on media freedom and documented media violations recorded between January and June 2026. The presentation outlined incidents affecting journalists and media institutions, identified emerging trends in restrictions on freedom of expression and access to information, and explored the implications of these developments for the electoral environment. MISA Zambia underscored that safeguarding media freedom and protecting journalists are essential preconditions for credible, transparent and inclusive elections, and called on all stakeholders to adopt the report’s recommendations
