LUSAKA, Thursday, May 1, 2025 – MISA Zambia joins the nation today in commemorating Labour Day 2025.

We would like to use this occasion to highlight the critical role of media professionals in driving national development and keeping the nation informed. Media workers are essential for disseminating information, ensuring that citizens are informed, educated, and engaged in making well-informed decisions. Their dedication, often in challenging circumstances, significantly contributes to transparency, accountability, and the democratic process.

MISA Zambia urges the government and its relevant ministries to implement legal reforms that enhance the practice of journalism rather than obstruct it. The government is also called upon to create and sustain a supportive environment for media professionals, enabling them to educate and inform the public without fear of harassment. A favorable media operating environment will help retain media practitioners, preventing them from transitioning to other fields such as public relations.

As we observe Labour Day, MISA Zambia urges all stakeholders to support the vital contributions of media workers. Their role in informing the public and holding those in power accountable is crucial for a resilient and thriving Zambia.
