MISA Zambia mourns former PSAf Staffer, Mr. Gilles Chashi Kasongo

MISA Zambia remembers Mr. Kasongo as advocate for media freedom and development which is key to furthering Zambia’s democracy and development agenda

PRESS STATEMENT

For Immediate Release

LUSAKA – MISA Zambia expresses deep sorrow over the untimely death of former Panos Institute Southern Africa (PSAf) staffer member, Mr. Gillies Chashi Kasongo who passed on Wednesday 25th September 2024 at St Johns Medical Centre in Lusaka.

Having joined PSAf in 2006, Mr. Kasongo served the organization in various capacities where he was entrusted with running various projects and activities when he rose to the position of Senior Programme Officer.

Mr. Kasongo also served as Chairperson of the World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) Local Organizing Committee and as Resource Mobilization Committee Chairperson between 2022 and 2023 where he was vital in the organization of the Africa Media Convention (AMC).

MISA Zambia remembers Mr. Kasongo as an advocate for media freedom and development which is key to furthering Zambia’s democracy and development agenda.

In memory of Mr. Kasongo, MISA Zambia stands in solidarity with PSAf and all media organizations, recognizing the significant loss suffered by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

MISA Zambia extends its deepest condolences to the family of the late Mr. Kasongo, PSAf Community and the entire media fraternity on the loss of a vibrant media personality.

Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this challenging time.

May the soul of Mr. Kasongo rest in eternal peace.
