MSCZ holds first inaugural AGM

MISA Zambia Board Chairperson expressed her deep appreciation for the strong turnout and the collective support of diverse media stakeholders in ensuring the MSCZ continues to grow and being effective

The Media Self-Regulation Council of Zambia (MSCZ), in collaboration with MISA Zambia, successfully held its inaugural elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the MIKA Convention Centre in Chongwe. The event, which brought together over 100 participants from various media entities across the country, marked a pivotal moment for the council as a new Executive Committee was elected to lead its future activities.

Among the distinguished guests was MISA Zambia Board Chairperson, Mrs. Lorraine Mwanza Chisanga, who highlighted the vital role of a free, independent and ethical media in sustaining a democratic society. She emphasized the importance of media Self-Regulation in upholding high ethical standards and protecting media independence from external pressures.

In addition, Mrs. Chisanga also expressed her deep appreciation for the strong turnout and the collective support of diverse media stakeholders in ensuring the MSCZ continues to grow and being effective.

The AGM elections, which were overseen by the Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP), saw Pst. Kennedy Mambwe re-elected as MSCZ Chairperson and Mr. Harrison Phiri elected as MSCZ Vice Chairperson, both running unopposed. In his acceptance speech, Pst. Mambwe thanked the attendees and stakeholders for their trust in his leadership and reaffirmed his commitment to adhering to the code of ethics endorsed during the AGM.

Meanwhile, the newly elected committee members include Fr. Christopher Sawila, Madam Jessy Bwalya, and Mr. Fredrick Mkandawire.
