Issues we address
MISA Zambia advocates for media freedom and freedom of expression through many intervention areas namely the Freedom of Expression and Access to Information Programme, the Free Speech Programme and the Community Voices and Good Governance Programme (CVGG).
Overall, the chapter focuses on freedom of expression, media development and good governance. Among other specific areas are broadcast regulation, Internet freedom and citizen participation in governance.
The organisation is committed to a comprehensive approach in demanding for various reforms and this includes evidence based advocacy as a means of justification.
In trying to encourage professionalism in media practice, MISA Zambia runs the annual awards in various categories.
Among MISA Zambia’s successes are the enactment of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) and the Zambian National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) Amendment Acts of 2002.
MISA Zambia is currently involved in the demand for the enactment of the Access to Information (ATI) bill which has been pending since 2002.
MISA Zambia delivers a diverse range of programmes and activities to improve free expression in Zambia.
