MISA Zambia has appealed to government to be engaging the media from time to time to reduce misinformation and disinformation.

Speaking during the launch of the State of the Media Report in Zambia the fourth quarter of 2019, MISA Zambia Chairperson Helen Mwale says constant engagement with the media will reduce speculation among citizens.

Ms Mwale says that news and information which is inaccurate can lead to civil unrest because it spreads false information which misleads people.

And speaking at the same event, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga has called for dialogue and professionalism in the media.

He says the media should endeavor to be professional at all times as they carry out their duties.

Malupenga added that the government is on course in enacting the Access to Information (ATI) Bill.

The State of the Media in Zambia is a quarterly report produced by MISA Zambia which seeks to assess the media environment of the country over a period of three(3) months.
