MISA Zambia has launched a policy document on the possibilities of having the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) regulated by the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA).

This is being proposed to be done by merging the ZNBC Amendment Act 2010 and IBA Act of 2010 to bring into existence an independent Broadcasting Regulator.

MISA Zambia Chairperson Hellen Mwale says her organisation is keen to see to it that the two pieces of legislation are merged so as to ensure that the broadcasting industry has an independent regulatory body.

Ms Mwale explained in a speech read for her by Vice Hyde Haguta that MISA Zambia is excited to have the policy document because it shows that the project is making headway.

And Law Association of Zambia President Linda Kasonde expressed happiness at the stance that MISA Zambia has taken adding that it is going in the right direction in that ZNBC is not really a public broadcaster.

Ms Kasonde also thanked Lawyer Marshal Muchende for developing the policy document which will go a long way in changing the media landscape.
