A team of MISA Zambia officials on Friday, October 2nd, visited The Post Newspaper to offer moral support and solidarity following the mysterious shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at about 12:45 hours.
The team comprised MISA National Director Austin Kayanda, Assistant Programme Officers Sally Chiwama​ and Kamufisa Manchishi​, with Maureen Bwalya, Programmes Intern.
The team visited the scene and carried out an independent verification and further had meetings with editorial staff in the name of Deputy Managing Editor Joseph Mwenda and Managing Editor, Joan Chirwa.
The team later met Post proprietor Fred M’membe who expressed shock over the shooting incident.
MISA Zambia National Director, Austin Kayanda, described the shooting as unacceptable for whatever reason. He said the institution was concerned and was undertaking the visit to verify what had been reported as an attack on the Post was an attack on the entire media fraternity.
He stated that following the visit, MISA Zambia would then proceed to issue an alert to its various cooperating partners, the regional office and other stakeholders on what had been witnessed.
Police have since instituted investigations into the shooting which occurred in broad daylight when a single bullet pierced through the roof of the newspaper’s newsroom much to the shock of the reporters who were at the time engrossed in production work.
MISA Zambia believes in media freedom without any impediments and believes that such attacks should not be tolerated in any way.
